Campbells Store
Relive your history. Campbell’s Store is a two story stone and brick building built in 1835 by James Campbell. This store was, in its hey day, “The Place to Shop” in the Hunter Valley of NSW. Everyone from miles around traveled by steamship, horse and cart, walked or rode to shop at Campbell’s Store. James Campbell even minted his own money to be used by patrons.
Now, over 175 years later, nothing has changed! After falling into disrepair, Campbell’s Store has been restored to its original splendor. The original sandstone building is now home to Morpeth Antique Centre, featuring 25 dealers, other speciality shops and The Servant’s Quarters Tearoom. Running along the back of Campbell’s Store is a big blue barn like structure. This houses Morpeth Ginger Beer Factory & Gourmet Foods, Morpeth Gift Gallery and Morpeth Investment Art Gallery.
Shopping is a real experience at this multi-award winning destination. Wander at your leisure through this vast complex. You’ll find investment original art, art prints, books and Teddy Bears, jewellery, handbags, skin care products, jams and candy. There’s honey and gourmet foods, toys, pretty beading and laces and a huge range of novelty teapots. You will also find many well known branded products and collectibles such as Akubra, Ted Baker, Crabtree and Evelyn, Wild & Wolf and Willow Tree.
You’ll Taste Traditional Ginger Beer just like Grandma used to make, brewed on the premises, in Morpeth Ginger Beer Factory. Using old fashioned equipment, watch as your cordial is brewed and stirred by hand, bottled just four at a time, labeled individually and packed into cartons ready to deliver to your door. Then taste the finished product. There are twelve flavours of cordial to choose from. Fudge, Nuts and Honey Tasting also await.
If you cannot get to the store, then take a tour through the Campbell’s Store Internet “Gift Gallery” right here on this site. Choose your gifts and we will mail them out to you.
