Morpeth Gallery, NSW Thursday 15th October to Sunday 18th October
See it. Spot it. Count it: Get ready for the Aussie Bird Count at The Bird and the Brush Art Exhibition! Bird lovers, art enthusiasts, families and nature lovers are being encouraged to visit Morpeth Gallery’ The “Bird and Brush” Art exhibition before taking part in the Aussie Bird Count, Australia’s largest citizen science event.
Running from Thursday 15 October to Sunday 18 October, the exhibition will showcase highly realistic original bird paintings, offering visitors the perfect opportunity to brush up on their bird-identification skills before heading outdoors for the Aussie Bird Count from 19–25 October.
The gallery will be open from 10am to 4.30pm each day, with free entry.
For anyone who has ever looked into their backyard and wondered “What bird is that?”, The Bird and the Brush provides an engaging and beautiful way to become more familiar with some of Australia’s remarkable birdlife.
Visitors can study the detailed artworks, learn to recognise distinctive features and colours, and put their newfound identification skills to the test during the Aussie Bird Count.

The Morpeth Men’s Shed is putting its woodworking skills to work for local wildlife, creating specially designed bird nesting boxes for Rosellas, Lorikeets and Kookaburras.
The handmade boxes will be on display and available to order at the Bird and Brush Art Exhibition at Morpeth Gallery, 5 Green Street, Morpeth NSW 2321, on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October 2026.
Members of the Morpeth Men’s Shed have been busy constructing the boxes as a practical way of helping provide additional nesting habitat for native birds. The boxes are designed to provide a safe and sheltered place for birds to nest, particularly in urban and suburban areas where suitable natural tree hollows may be limited.
Something for everyone
Whether you are a dedicated birdwatcher, art collector, gardening enthusiast, nature lover or simply looking for an inspiring family day out, The Bird and Brush Art Exhibition offers something for everyone.
The exhibition provides a chance to appreciate Australia’s birdlife through art while preparing for a nationwide event that turns everyday birdwatching into meaningful citizen science.
Original artworks will be available for purchase from 10am on Thursday 15 October, with visitors able to experience the exhibition in person at Morpeth Galleries or shop online.
